⌖ I know what you’re thinking. “Stix, WildStar shut down back in 2018.. why’re you forcing me on this rollercoaster of emotions all over again?”
And the answer is simple: I was thinking about really good MMORPGs – games that were really unique, that were different, but that never took off. WildStar crossed my mind – not because it never took off, but instead because it was taken from us too soon.
Whenever I read about WildStar, whenever I asked people about WildStar, they never have anything other than positive things to say about the game. Why is that? If you ask people about Bless – you get nothing but hate, loathing and utter disgust.
But WildStar? People loved WildStar. So why did WildStar shut down, and is there any chance of it ever relaunching? That’s kinda what I wanna talk about today.

I miss Wildstar. I remember pulling the guild through Mordechai in Skullcano because they would all die despite all of the cleanses and heals I had to offer.
More than once I auto attacked him to death as an esper healer.
When you develop a game under the mindset of "the lead example of the genre that has millions of folks playing it is Bad Actually", its going to fail.
wildstar is the best mmorpg i played, especially the combat system, its was unique like no other, so much fun skill and aiming timing, everything
Wildstar had some of the best cinematic trailers and hype. The art direction was solid. There is an entire body of work ready to be sold to another developer in place. Wildstar failed because the people at NC Soft are more interested in making a quick buck than taking the time to put out a quality game. The mismanagement only goes as far as when the money runs out, then it's "Abandon the ship" and don't be the last one holding the check.
I actually just learned that the game shut down and it really sucks. I was never hugely into the game but I loved its aesthetics and gameplay.
GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK GIVE ME WILDSTAR BACK UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU%HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHertjgkprgjodrthk
I loved the housing system
Lets face it, Wildstar died because back in 2014… people didn't know how to not stand in fire. It's design was just too ahead of the curve.
Loved WIldstar more than any other MMORPG by far and I've played WoW off and on since mid 07. I didn't find out about WIldstar until it went F2P so can't comment on the launch but at least after it went F2P I disagree and feel there was still tons to do at end game besides raiding. I never raided in it and always felt there was a ton of stuff to do besides housing, which I had almost no interest in other than checking out other peoples houses sometimes(Which some were amazingly intricate and well designed) The combat was extremely fun, QC medic was amazing. Had the best dungeons/world zones/world events in any MMORPG I've ever experienced. Wish I could have raided but my PC sucked at the time and a certain particle effect that was in most raid boss fights killed my framerate. Can only think of 3 things I didn't like while playing Wildstar; Stalkers(?) pretty much one shotting people in PvP, how you would kind of "slide" while moving/stopping and that one particle effect that killed my framerate. RIP
Could anyone please tell me the name of the song at the end of the video? Thank you! ^^
我曾经参加了 WildStar在中国的内测,内容几乎完全汉化了,包括配音。不过这款游戏后来并没有运营
Wildstar was one of my favorite MMOs of all time. One thing I remember is that there wasn't anything really worth buying in the cash shop. The costumes kind of sucked. They should have made more interesting things to buy then maybe the company wouldn't have gone under.
The only thing wildstar suffered from was the theme. How would it have done with a WOW like theme?
I will never buy another NC Soft title again. I believe they are behind GW2, which is the ONLY game they've had that was tolerable to play for any significant amount of time. Aion, beautiful idea, but NCSof… Conan, same… Lineage II, same.
Here is what I think their model is. Make a game, make it Buy to Play, Drop almost all support for the game. I honestly think they are following a shitty, scummy marketing path of taking games that could be great, hyping them up, and selling them, just to make money, drop the game, and do it all again.
NCSoft only makes games to be shutdown
I wish it would get resurrected, honestly was a lot of fun
I missed out on playing Wildstar and it remains one of my biggest gaming regrets. When it launched I didn't have a computer capable of playing it… by the time I did, I didn't have the time to start a new mmo… once I finally had both the time and a pc for it the game had announced it was shutting down. I've wanted a Sci-Fi MMO to play for years(still do now) and Wildstar from the outside and from what I heard from others sounded like it had the potential to be that game I really wanted. I have found plenty of Fantasy style mmo's that I enjoy over the years but my Sci-Fi mmo itch has never been successfully scratched sadly. Maybe one day, someone will do something like Wildstar and get it right!
I hadn't found out of wildstar dying until last year, I was heart broken to find out it was gone. Here's hoping that it will come back to us one day
To be honest i liked that game , i'm from Vanila wow still playing wow at that time, i was enjoying it for weeks but then suddenly i cannot log in Asian region . somehow there was this message that would pop up (i can't remember) and for days i've tried logging back in but to no avail . Eventually i gave up. But tbh i liked the aesthetics, the gameplay it's very refreshing coming from a serious mmorpg to a not so serious mmorpg.
A wildstar reboot with the Belgium studio larian from divinity original sin would be so amazing!!!
Still miss WildStar. I always wanted a MMO with an amazing Housing system, and that game…that game, man, was the pinnacle of it.
I miss this one. It was a pearl. Not understood at the time of was. Medic forever…
I never get into wildstar that much (cause mmos just didnt do much for me at that time). But I would love to now.. The raiding seems sweet as hell.
Honestly I started playing the F2p version and fell in love with the gameplay and art style.
I immediately uninstalled when I saw the monthly payment and what it did for players.
If it stayed entirely F2P with payments being cosmetic only, the game would be alive and well.
I prefered WildStar over any other MMORPG. Luckily I experienced amazing guild, explored all zones, most quests and every dungeon/expedition. Pre-realease trailers were exquisite – it´s shame it ended, but I experienced one of the best time in my gaming history 🙂
i miss this game this was the wow killer to me i loved the graphic game mechanic the humor pvp . i never wanted to play wow again now im just stuck playing wow just out of habit and not fun
This game was fantastic. Great art style, good story and dynamic combat. Really wish they would relaunch. I know it will never happen but I wish it would. When this game shut down it left an itch I haven't been able to scratch since.
It was such a great game in many aspects… especially housing…
I loved the world of WildStar, I wish they'd make a singleplayer game set in the same universe, so at least it won't get shut down.
trist
the combat in this game was really great …
I have the biggest problem with majority of games that combat is simply boring 🙁
I can of course play BDO for example where combat was also great, but currently it looks more like P2W which I dont want to play.
It would be amazing to have game like BDO which will be sub. based … but anything like that probably dont exist 🙁
So I just play some moba games or I will eventually try torchlight 3 or something like that when it will be released.
also game like battlerite would be amazing (if anyone will made mmorpg with such combat … where you actually need to hit skills, you can dodge skills …etc…. yeah wildstar was very similar to that 🙁 )
If people wanted it to have a chance of being relaunched then tall these people who see this video and who loved wildstar should write to Nsoft about their feeling, maybe if people would let them know how much they miss the game they would think about it.. i already been write 10 letters to them
All I wanted was a chua warrior
Before the game even launched i was already skeptical as the name reservation was both a stupid idea in the first place and an utter mess. There was no need for name reservation because preorder came with a head start.
Next at launch crafted gear was utterly insane for a few weeks then they fixed it but left the already crafted gear in the game giving a massive advantage.
Next was class balance. Wildstar was marketed have hard and challenging PVE and also a PVP system however the class balance was a fucking joke at launch and they even said that for the first 3-4 months it was not even on their radar to address due to other issues.
This is utterly unacceptable in a game that you need to push your limits to do some content only to find you class is trash through no fault of your own. These three issues killed any hype for the game i had i played and hung around for the first major update then slowly my friend's all quit until i was the only one left.
It also lacked a fair bit of content at max level. That being said i loved the housing system the combat was fun and i loved the art style. The story was a bit forgettable and i do wish they had used the great characters from, the promo stuff more in the story.
The Combatsystem was the best in MMOs i ever played. One major problem were the cosmetic Items. Most looked like they were still placeholders from the development. And the pvp-Groupfinder. I've never seen a warplot from the inside despite this was the reason i startet to play this game … i want it back! 🙁
I personally loved the game.
I got in after it had been out for a year, so I didn't go through the "pay-to-play my Alpha/Beta" mess.
I would love to see the title get picked up by another studio. The richness of the content and player capabilities made the game one of the most unique on the market at that time.
That being said, there are a lot of things that a relaunch – even by another studio – would have to fix right away. Boarding a ship in WS just to watch a load screen was immersion braking at it's worst. Even vanilla WoW used "animated pathing" as load screens between zones. I guess it doesn't matter now.
I do feel the point you made about this game being designed for "Raiders" was spot on. From the lack of more unique starting/tutorial zones to the complexity and length of standard dungeons, they devs at Carbine and NCSoft definitely misread the market on this one only to continue to misread the larger core of their fan base until the end. Overall, the devs doomed themselves to obsolescence, and as you pointed out, NCSoft should certainly not relaunch the game.
Access to personal servers would be excellent, though.
Number one reason why the game failed is that it was not optimized for AMD users… just to play the game you had to install a third party patch and to manual change some settings
Wildstar was one of the best mmo's that never got a second chance by the majority of the community. It's launch wasn't too dissimilar to FF14 and Elder scrolls. Yet those 2 games were revamped and everyone came back and those games do pretty well now. Yet when Wildstar revamped and went F2P not enough people gave it the same 2nd chance FF14 or TESO got. Such a shame because they did fix a lot of what people had issues.
How I can download this game? Can you give me link download?
I miss thos game so much… I don't understand what happened. It was perfect. Fucking casuals…
A real shame – such a gem and combat was incredibly smooth and story was quirky. It really did had so much potential, but I think the fault that Wildstar had was that it was trying to be vanilla wow, it should have focused on being its own game.
Wildstar was amazing… Got into it too late but I loved it
the shutdown in this game is very fishy can only imagina blizzard payed to them
I was so hyped for wildstar. I have a preorder steel version of the box. Unfortunatley, it failed like all other MMORPGs except wow. It had terrible optimization and lagged like hell. Was impossible to play. Even tho I had a good computer. Ran on like 20-30 FPS with lagspikes. Plus the game felt quite shallow… One starting zone, not a good idea. The PvP was extremely unbalanced. It def had potentional tho in so many ways. But it didn't pull through.
Also the devs, didn't answer the forums and told us nothing. They ignored everything. This pissed me.
So what failed the game and got me to quit early was those: optimization, unifinished game and the devs ignoring the community and the optimization problem.
