The Death of Wildstar

Wildstar is no more, and I’m really bummed. Let’s talk about why this happened. This video is sponsored by Kakao Games. Play the newest Black Desert Online: Drieghan Expansion here with a 7-day free trial:

WildStar was a fantasy/science fiction massively multiplayer online role-playing game that was developed by Carbine Studios, published by NCSOFT. It unveiled on August 17, 2011 during Gamescom. It shut down November 28, 2018.

  • Loved the art style. Lesson that applies to most things in life: When you listen to the vocal minority, you ignore and piss off the silent majority.

  • As someone that played the game without too many IRL friends also playing, the attunement process ruined it for me cause it was near impossible to do with pug groups.

  • No local servers to my self and people around the world, overly bight contrast theme to the game which put people off, over the top attunements, clunky UI, clunky would and clunky quests is what killed the game for my self.

  • I was a closed beta and early access Wildstar player and the main reason why it shutdown is because they launched it as Buy2Play forcing everyone to buy the EXPENSIVE founders pack which gave 30 days free game time, after that it was subscription based. the game literally died off in about 5 weeks after launch. so after the game pretty much went dead due to B2P+P2P, they turned around and merged the servers up and launched it as F2P+P2W. at that point EVERYONE left the game and it was a ghost town for several months until they shut it down completely.

  • As a life long COH player(all 8 years while live) I can assure you anything NCSOFT has its hands on will eventually shut down as they don't care about their community. Thankfully city of heroes is now back online!!! Fuck you NcSoft/Cryptic studios!!!!

  • I loved the game, but I went back and tried to play it…about 6 months before it died and they did this weird thing with dungeons where high levels could pop in and blow the place apart and essentially powerlevel everyone there. Took away all of the fun of the challenge and just…ugh! They apparently didn't have the people or resources to turn things around the same way ESO and XIV did. Which is a shame, because I would argue they had far more potential than both games at launch. I still argue the game had the best combat of any MMO to date, and I loved the Saturday Morning Cartoon feel of the art style. So sad…

  • I was huge into Wildstar from Beta all the way through release and eventually level cap. I said from the very start that they were making a huge mistake and a huge miscalculation. The "hardcore" raider makes up a very VERY small part of a games population. Hate to say it but its why WoW started LFR and all their other tactics over the years like dungeon finder. You absolutely rely on the casual player who makes up to 90% of a games population, to pay the bills. For an MMO to survive these days they must cater to all types of players with the casual being the main priority.

    ALSO! And most importantly:

NCSoft is one of the worst companies in the entire universe! They are evil, greedy bastards and will shoot a puppy in the face to save a penny.

  • One of the best mmo games of all times, the raids were epic. I miss revisiting both this and Warhammer Online. Woe is me 😉

  • I tried Black Desert Online, it didn't work. Give me back my Wildstar. And I'm not a hardcore gamer, more casual and I really liked Wildstar. Better than most other trash games out there like Destiny, yeah didn't enjoy my time playing that one at all.

  • our ONLY chance for a new good mmo that will dethrone wow is , unfortunately, Blizzard. They are the only ones that know how to do it. But they will not, because they are not the Blizzard that was 20 years ago. They will just milk much more from wow for years to come. You guys that play wow (myself too), if you just think outside of the box while playing it, you will realise how old it is. The animations, the graphics. It's ridiculous, but you will only realize it , if you try to see it as something you see for the first time. When I realized that, i was what the f#ck im playing? Just imagine a new blizzard MMO with No man's sky graphics… It's my dream

  • I really loved Wildstar, but your are %100 correct, they "hardcored" themselves right out of existence. They catered to the %1 of raiders who enjoy insanely hard raids that required 40 players to complete. They needed to take the wow approach and have 10 to 25 player raids, and have varying degrees of difficulty. Cater to the casual. That's how you keep it alive.

  • Really wish they would bring wildstar to console. I think that would revive it. I liked the game it was just dead as hell. Distance it from wow and people would realize its actually pretty good instead of just comparing it to wow..i think at least lol

  • Black desert is garbage sure it has a player base still and that’s solely because people are simply trying it before quitting it due to RNG Frustration but it’s a mindless grind game with no end game, no dungeons, no real crafting system that benefits Progression, just get boss gear from the world (RNG) or on the market which you can either mindlessly life skill for money or pay to win your gear from the market using the in game pearl shop (real money to sell Costumes on the market) and mindlessly grind for money to try and enhance it just to fail because the enhancements system is purely RNG and the worst any MMO has ever seen then grind some more to try try again at enhancing!

  • Unique art style? You mean let's make it look like WoW water colors… that style? Handful of ex-WoW devs… Hmmm, no wonder. Attunement, sounds like a key system all over again, like WoW. It's like those WoW devs took all the dead ideas from WoW to bring it back, thinking it would bring all those hardcore people from WoW vanilla days. I don't think they exist as they used to, or simply stopped playing video games. MMO's have gone so casual, and I don't think it can ever go back to those days.

  • I loved wildstar everything about it and I never got a chance to REALLY play it because I didn't have enough money for a gaming computer so I could enjoy raids. I now own a gaming PC and wish I could play this. Makes me so upset that nobody even bothered to buy the title and keep it going for how wonderful it was.
