How to Separate Game Audio and Microphone Audio in OBS Studio

UPDATE: DON’T SUB TO THIS CHANNEL ANYMORE!
For all OBS tutorial videos, please check out the new channel
If you have any ideas for videos, let me know and I’ll probably make a video on it.

In this tutorial I show you how to record multiple audio tracks. This will allow you to record game audio and microphone audio separately so that you can edit them individually in post. I also show you how to access each audio track in Audacity.

  • hi im using macbook pro and followed everything but I cant seem to separate the system audio from my mic audio still 🙁 Particularly when you get to the point where you right click the video to choose which audio track to use, I right click in quicktime and nothing comes up. I tried looking in file and edit options as well but I dont see anything that would allow me to choose which audio track plays back please help !

  • So once you update the audio tracks in Audacity how do you get that into the video? Do you just save the audacity file, remove the original sound in a video editing app (like movavi) and then import the audacity file?

  • Thx man, helped a lot. But there is one issue with your video at 6:29 where you told me to drag "avformat-55.dll" out of the exported file specifically and locate that file in audacity. That couldn't let me drag my video into audacity at all. I fixed this by just selecting the file I exported as a whole and locating that whole exported file in audacity and it worked perfectly. Just writeing this comment for anyone else that experienced that issue and needed help with that.

  • Ok so funny story, I was about to write how it did not work, but then I discovered that I had to choose a specific video file, and then it finnally got into Audacity.
Basically I cannot put all the 3 files together or else it wont work, I have to select it manually…
But its not a big deal because it works! Thanks!

  • I know I'm a little tardy to the party, but I wish I knew about this years ago. I like recording gameplay with friends and making small compilations of shenanigans for our own amusement and it's always frustrating when my mic volume is too high or low but it's all 1 track. I record in .mkv and convert to .mp4 and it splits the tracks in Vegas Magix 16. Game changer. Appreciate the tutorial man.

  • I'm guessing this is the reason why I am not able to get in game audio recorded on OBS, whereas my mic input is fine. I will give this a go, it has been a frustrating few days working this out cheers
